Robert Walton, CEO of Claremont University Consortium and the Artist with the Pendleton Rock

The artist at the Rembrandt Club event Thanks to the Rembrandt Club at Pomona College for inviting me to speak about my art this past April 2017. And thank you to all the lovely folks who came to the event and the reception afterward at Seaver House. It was a wonderful experience!

Welcome to my home on the web. When I began painting structures on stone, I did so out of a personal passion for architecture, and a desire to capture the beauty of a building on something other than the traditional canvas. In addition, I have always had a love for the natural beauty and endless shapes of rocks. The "weightiness" of a stone just seemed to fit with the idea of a building painted on it.

The response has been absolutely wonderful. I am proud to say that the owners of the rocks view them as family heirlooms to be passed down through generations. Many people have told me that they "love seeing both the FRONT and BACK of the structure painted in such detail."

The reasons for commissioning a rock vary greatly. Many simply want to have the front and back of their home or business captured in this very unique and exciting way. Sometimes a family is moving and they want to take their home or business with them. Sometimes it is a surprise for the person who “has everything", or for a colleague or retiree. Each project, no matter how large or small, is very exciting to me and I always look forward to the wonderful response the finished work inspires at Presentation time.

If you would like to commission a Stone or have any questions, please feel free to contact me at sketchedinstone@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you and thanks for dropping by my web studio!

I am working on a new website which will have many more gallery photos, lots more testamonials as well as photos of my shows, upcoming projects and special events.

As always, feel free to email me anytime with ideas or commissions. Remember, it's not how new or old, small or large the structure is, it's what it means to you that counts.

I look forward to meeting you and thanks for stopping by my website!

Dawn visits the Vulcan Materials Company, Upland, CA

Dawn's love for rocks and interest in how they affect our economy and our everyday lives, led her to tour the Vulcan Materials Company in Upland, CA. The tour included a drive down into Vulcan's Upland quarry where the actual mining of rocks takes place.
